It is projected that the current 400 million plus mobile internet users worldwide will explode to a figure of 800 million in 3-4 years time. As mobiles become affordable, more and more people will hook up to the Internet for entertainment and information. This is where the opportunities lies.

WAP sites

Still in its infancy, websites are now turning their sites WAP-enable, meaning mobile internet can now bring these once website only viewable on browsers, onto the mobile. Also when ecommerce comes into the picture, the combination is endless for advertisers to ‘exploit’ this business model. Such sites should still focus on context driven content. Advertisers can sell/market their ads via CPC or CPM basis.

SMS and MMS

Mobile Messaging in the form of Short Message Service (SMS) and Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) are the norm these days. There’s still plenty of opportunities for advertisers to get their product across a wide range of potential customers.

Applications

Mobiles have applications in them. May it be games, ringtones to tool they use in their daily life. Some of the mobile user download these downloadable applications and if advertisers are clever, they would provide a free applications with their ads embed in them.

Summary

So there you go, some opportunities advertisers can try to gain more sales leads. The white paper on mobile advertising recently released gave a figure of 30 per cent response rates from such mobile advertising. Not bad right.
