Pay per click advertising or PPC as we call it, can be a tad complicated and probably scares off someone who is new to it. The learning curve is slightly difficult but once you cover the basics such as Lead Generation and Landing Pages, you’ll master it in no time.

It’s not a matter of how much budget you have or lack of resources when compared to a larger businesses which have them at their disposal, but its all about basic strategies even an individual or small businesses can profit from Pay Per Click Advertising.

I find that most companies give up PPC advertising after discouraging ROI (Return of Investment). Rather than looking at the X dollars in return for every advertising dollar spent, why not look at the overall LTV (lifetime value) of customers in the long run.

For PPC advertising, sometimes when starting out, you may not break even for your investment, but the goal here is long term. Look at it in terms of months down the road.

You can verify the success of your Pay Per Click advertising from the Lead Generation you acquired. Did the lead values exceed the cost to get that lead. If so, are there cheaper alternatives to acquiring more such leads.

I find that Pay Per Click Advertising are great options when you’re maintaining a mailing list. Tally all the names that have been collected so far after some time, crunch the numbers if the initial costs to gather such names covers the cost. This is where LTV comes in. If the cost is not recouped, there’s no point maintaining this campaign. Try a new one.

To prevent potential non-sales of clicks from bogus users, and thus saving advertising cost, the best way to offset this is by targeting targeted keyword phrases. Don’t go too broad when selecting keywords for your campaign. Stay close to the product/business being marketed.

Another pointer is to target keywords that are not too generic. Find keywords that a much more longer and descriptive. Yes a much more specific targeted keyword related to your business will have better lead conversion.

Once you’ve master the keyword part, next your move is to entice and grab the attention of the user into make the sale. That is where your landing pages comes in.

It’s very important to narrow down the choices in the pages. If you want an email, a simple mailing form should be at the top.

If you want a sales lead, don’t write long winded description with flashy designs. People have a short attention span and you have some 4-5 seconds to grab their attention. When there’s too many choices on the page, the user will likely exit the page.

Always always always have various types of landing pages prepared and made. I usually have 3-4 with my Pay Per Click Advertising pointed to each different one. With my analytic tools, I can tell which of the landing pages works well. After a few short days of experiment, I’ll use the one with the highest ROI.

So in summary, have a long term goal, use targeted specific keywords for the bidding and create a clever multiple landing pages. So there you go, hope the pointers are of help

Good Luck!
