A lot of books will tell you how to make money online from home in AdWords is to buy 1000+ keywords and start grinding away. This was good advice 5 years ago but for those just getting started and want to make money now, its bad.
You’ll be face down and not know what hit you. So what’s good advice?
Picking Your Battle
If you sell business opportunities, weight loss, alternative health, loans or credit cards, you will be in a big fight for because they are very lucrative markets.
You can’t typically start at the top, rather you have to start nudging your way in. Find a second class keyword that isn’t getting as much attention as the obvious ones. It is a niche within a niche.
If you are competing with weight loss, you may want to go with natural weight loss programs or pharmaceutical weight loss pills. Whatever you are catering to, just make it more specific to the audience you are reaching. When doing this, you can become king of the smaller market and work your way up.
Building A Good Campaign
To build a good campaign, start with one second class targeted keyword using the process described in How To Make Money Online From Home-AdWords Part 2, utilizing AdWords keyword tool and the Wonder Wheel.
Bid on the 1 keyword and start refining the ads and measuring the results for that keyword. Refining the ads meaning use a different background color, changing title, reverse title and subtitle.
Do little things that people may not even really be aware of but react differently to. Even if the competition is cut throat, this will still work if done correctly. You will start out with a higher lead cost, however as you continue to refine everything, the cost per lead should decline dramatically within days.
